    One heck of a score!

I just got back from a major score! Gotta unload this and go back for the other one. It's all 1" S2S curly and flame maple. The other pallet is the same size but it's 1.5" S2S of the same variety. This is about 1,000 lbs. Paid $150! Rough estimate is about .40/bf.

    A sad update.

Today's a hard day. This morning I took the last dose of my trial drug. I've been on this treatment for almost three years. This drug trial is pretty much the only treatment for my Late Onset Tay Sachs. I have had no negative side effects and I feel that it has helped me. The trial sponsor feels...

    I love woodworking!

I've been working my butt off on my current project and making a ton of sawdust. I'm nowhere even halfway near done. That stack of 3/16" x 6" x 22" blanks started life as a 4/4 x 6" x 96" roughsawn board. I love my DW735 with Shelix upgrade. It's a beast.

Resaw blades for a 14" bandsaw.

    I've been using a 1/2 x 105 - 3 tpi blade to resaw 6" wide poplar. It's working pretty well, but I'm thinking about trying a 3/4 x 105 - 3 tpi instead. I want a good-quality blade and I'm wondering if it might be worth trying a 3 tpi skip-tooth. I have quite a bit of resawing to do. Thoughts?

    Found a mill!

Very cool! I found a mill about an hour from me and just got back from picking up a bunch of 4/4 rough-sawn Poplar for $3.25 bf.

    It's almost bending time!

The king of overbuild! A few years ago, I bought a stack of 100 11-3/4 x 48 particle board shelves from Home Depot for $25. It's great for patterns and such and I've still got a ton of it left. I have to bend some 3/4 Poplar. Initially, I had planned on resawing it to about 1/4" and laminating...

    Router speed controls.

Hi there, I have a Dewalt DW618 router and it works great, but it's installed in my router table. It's too difficult for me to adjust the speed because of where the control is at. Would it be OK to just set the router to full speed and plug it into a speed controller like this...

Tiger Stadium seat restoration is underway.

Well, I'm finally making progress on my Tiger Stadium Seat restoration project. I've got 2-1/2 days of work into assessing, disassembling, and preparing to take everything to the sandblaster. (still getting quotes) While they are being sandblasted, I'll be doing a lot of resawing, forming...

    Beautiful flex-shaft grinder/rotary tool.

Got a new toy today! It's so much better than a standard rotary tool. It's 1200W. 500-30000 rpm, and reversible. Beautiful heavy-duty 5/32" flex shaft. (came with an extra one too) it's so comfortable to use and maneuverable. I love this thing so far!

    Tiger Stadium seat restoration project.

I've got a lot of work ahead of me. These seats came out of Navin Field, aka Briggs Stadium, and then Tiger Stadium, in Detroit, MI. I have probably seven or eight of them. Some assembled plus a few extra castings to make more. They belong to a buddy and he wants me to restore them. I've had...

Upcoming project question., (wood steam bending involved)

Question about forming wood slats. I've had them for a long time, but I think it's about time to get started. I have a bunch of seats that were taken out of Tiger Stadium in Detroit before it was demolished. The folding part of the seat and the backs are slats that are about 5/8" thick. The...

    The time has almost come.

Big day tomorrow. I have a 5-1/2 hour web-based meeting with the FDA concerning federal approval of drugs/treatments for rare diseases. For an hour, I am a panelist in the live broadcast portion and will be fielding questions from the FDA, web participants, and callers. I'm kind of nervous, but...

    Keeping hope alive.

I'm getting excited. On February 15, we are having a 5-1/2 hour-long meeting with the FDA to discuss the importance of drug trials for rare diseases. A good portion of it will be recorded and shown during this web-conference. But I have been selected as a presenter for a one-hour live portion of...

Shop work - The time has come.

Shop work - It's that time! I'm going to reclaim my shop. I've made the tough decision to quit being a hoarder. I have YEARS worth of "STUFF" that I have saved "Just in case". That ends now! No more throwing things in boxes and putting them on a shelf to deal with later. Later has come. I am...

    Face your challenges head on!

I'll be 60 in about a month. I am disabled with a very serious ultra-rare genetic disease. At this point, I can walk short distances but have to use a walker. Longer distances require me to use my power wheelchair. I love woodworking and will not give it up. I have set up my shop so that I can...

    Rockwell Model 14

Back in April, I picked up this very nice 1983 Rockwell Model 14 with the riser. I haven't needed it so it has sat there. It had a locking plug on it so I couldn't plug it in. I replaced the plug and fired her up. She runs great! I'm fairly certain that the tires are original, so I think I'm...

    Rockwell 28-203 14" band saw.

Hi folks! I have a 28-203 14" band saw with the riser. It's in very nice shape, but it has a 120V locking plug on it. I don't have a locking outlet, so I'm just gonna change out the plug to fire it up and see how she runs. The manual shows a standard open base woth the motor mounted toward the...

    Just checking in...

Howdy, all! I haven't been here in ages, so I thought I'd drop by and say hi. I'm doing pretty well overall I guess. My condition has progressed a little but I'm doing OK. It's nice because just before Christmas, I finally had a hoist installed in my Equinox that helps me put my wheelchair in...
