more cherry, about 11" across and 1/4" thick. This was a cut off from one side of the pith when I cut it out to get bowl blanks from the sides (it was a pretty big tree at the base).

I like it! The pith-side slabs often provide nice straight grain, and this is no exception. The carved finger pedestal add a nice look, too.

Thanks all, this was a fun one.. I have another piece I've been thinking about how to tackle for the last year ... (it's a rare piece of wood from a friend I want to give back) so this was kind of a practice / warm up run. It might be a nicer piece anyway but I'm less attached to it

Yeah I had roughed it at least 3 years ago so it was plenty dry by the time I got back to it.

Very nice platter and good size as well. To get that as a leftover near the pith is a bonus.
