I need to refinish several kitchen cabinet doors near my sink. House built in 2008 and originally sprayed by builder with this: https://industrial.sherwin-williams...er-wood-catalyzed-lacquer-precat.9197999.html.

I talked to Sherwin Williams and they said I could sand the doors and apply Minwax Helmsan Water Based Spar Urethane. https://www.sherwin-williams.com/ho...er-based-helmsman-indooroutdoor-spar-urethane

Cabinets are oak with no stain, just laquer finish. I am not sold that Sherwin gave me the proper solution. Looking for opinions.

If you’re just looking to refinish to match I’d think that going back with lacquer would be more seem less as it should do a full burn in with the old.

I would expect the minwax finish would hold up better for water staining, but may not match if you don’t refinish everything, but test a small area or inside of a door to see.

Yeah, I tend to agree, but the issue is that the original laquer was sprayed on by my builder. I still have access to this builder and could, in theory, have them respray. But this doesn't seem like a sustainable long term solution to always have to back to my builder for spraying items. Especially for items that are static that can't be taken off like cabinet frames and window trim. I am trying to find a solution I can do. I think you are right, give it a test. thanks
